Brief statement about how the McNair Scholars Program helped you get where you are today.

The McNair Scholars Program will assist me in learning research methods for next summer so I can effectively complete my research for my honors thesis.

Any advice for new McNair Scholars?

Addtional Information

Kristina is a junior undergraduate linguistics student from Crown Point, Indiana. Within linguistics, she is most interested in sociolinguistics, phonetics, and phonology. She also enjoys her fieldwork classes, which have helped her hone her grammatical sketch-writing skills, particularly for the Kihehe language. Kristina has studied Latin for six years and Bosnian/Croatian/Montenegrin/Serbian (one of her heritage languages) for one and a half years. She is eager to begin working on her honors thesis during her McNair Scholarship Research Program this summer and hopes to attend graduate school and earn her PhD in Linguistics, Slavic Linguistics, or Sociolinguistics. She currently works in the Phonetics and Phonology Lab under Dr. Kelly Berkson in the IU Department of Linguistics and assists Dr. Malgosia Ćavar with research on Croatian sibilants. Kristina is particularly interested in sociophonetics and perceptions of various speakers of the Bosnian/Croatian/Montenegrin/Serbian dialect continuum. For fun, she enjoys cooking and watching cat videos online.
