How to Apply
The McNair Program is not accepting applications at this time
We want to learn more about you. Please fill out an Applicant Information Form. Make sure you list contact information for two instructors willing to write a letter of recommmendation for you.
Who Should Write My Letters of Recommendation?
You should ask instructors from your major area who have taught you at IU Bloomington. At least one recommendation must be from a faculty member who is familiar with your academic work. Make sure you ask them before you submit their names!
What Happens Next?
All applications will be reviewed after the deadline. If your application is incomplete, two email attempts will be made to receive all information requested. After the McNair admissions committee reviews the completed applications, qualified applicants will be invited for an interview.
When you come for your interview, be prepared to:
- Sign and date an IU Office of Student Financial Assistance authorization for release of student information.
- Sign and date a McNair Scholars applications material checklist and information release authorization form.
- Provide copies of 2014 federal tax forms filed (as indicated in Section III of the McNair Scholars Program Application Form).
- Provide a copy of your Student Aid Report (SAR) or Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
What Are "Federal Tax Forms Filed"?
If you’re a dependent student, you’ll need to provide a copy of your parent or guardian’s tax forms. Otherwise, you’ll need to provide copies of your own tax forms. (The Office of Student Financial Assistance can help you determine whether you’re a dependent student.)
